Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Whether you've Irish blood in your veins or not, Happy St. Paddy's Day!  It's a wonderful spring day here on the farm, just right for getting out and surveying the yard work that (all too soon) will need to be done ... or, if you're Steve the Outdoor Cat, for lazing about on the top step in the warm sun.

Steve, the Outdoor Cat, Lord of All He Surveys
Of course, the warm weather and sunshine brings out other critters, including ones that I'm not so fond of ...

Ugh! Don't like 'em!
... and it brings out wonderful, beautiful, delightful flowers and leaves and buds, too!

Dandelions bloom by the front steps...
... as do these little flowers.
The buds on the trees are definitely getting bigger...
... as you can see.  Isn't the sky glorious?

Sorry this isn't clearer.  Our pear tree is in bloom!
It is such a glorious day!  All the windows are open, and the spring wind is whistling through the screens, driving out the stuffiness of winter.  In honor of the day, there's a corned beef brisket in the slow-cooker, with cabbage, carrots, and potatoes.  Hard to believe that in a few short months, we'll all be complaining about the heat!

I've completed all the motifs for the African Flower horse I'm making as part of a barter with my friend Jayne.  Now I'm setting them together, stuffing as I go.  So far, I've completed his two hind legs!  Here's a photo of my work table today:

Hind legs -- check!
The pattern, you may recall from my earlier post, is "Fatty Lumpkin, the Brave African Flower Pony" by Heidi Bears.  And what do you think of my yarn basket?  Only $1 at Dollar Tree!  If you follow me on Facebook, you saw how I've been using it to keep multiple balls of yarn tidy while I crochet the African Flower blocks.  I still love my Furls wooden yarn bowl, but when I use it for a multi-color project, the strands get tangled.  This basket is the perfect solution.

Speaking of Fatty Lumpkin, my friend Carrie Montgomery made up her own pony from that pattern over the weekend!  The blue, white and silver colors are perfect for the season .... March Madness® basketball season, that is!  This little guy sure is spiffy in his Kentucky "uniform". ;)

Isn't he cute?  Borrowed the photo from Facebook.
(Hope Carrie doesn't mind!)
Carrie has also made up Heidi's "Happypotamus the Happy Hippo", and it turned every bit as adorable as her pony!  Seriously, folks, if you crochet, and you like crocheting motifs, these patterns of Heidi's are addictive.  To paraphrase an old potato chip commercial, "You can't make just one!"

I had hoped to have photos of the finished wedding gift to share with you.  I've completed the cross stitch, but when the box arrived, it had come apart in shipping.  The man of the place says he can make it good as new with wood glue and clamps, so hopefully by next week, I'll have some show-and-tell for that project!

Unless my ears deceive me, it sounds like a beagle ate too much grass while we were outside .... :(  So I'll imitate Winnie the Pooh and say, "Ta ta for now!" while I go clean up the mess.  What are you working on this week?  Has spring sprung in your corner of the world?  Share your thoughts, comments, questions and photos with us below.  And as always, if you have a friend who likes playing with string as much as we do, invite them to join us -- the more the merrier!  Thanks for stopping by!
